Inventory Alignment
Commercial transactions for raw flax and spun yarn require a mathematical adjustment to reconcile the shipped weight with the standardized moisture-free mass plus allowable moisture regain. This calculation, known as mass true up, converts the raw weighed weight into the official invoice mass. The procedure sits in the commercial documentation stage, where it generates the final billing adjustment.
Discrepancy Resolution
Because linen absorbs atmospheric moisture easily, raw weight varies depending on humidity during transport. To correct this, the laboratory tests a small representative sample from the batch to find its true moisture content. This moisture percentage is used to calculate the absolute bone-dry mass of the linen shipment.
Once the dry mass is known, the commercial department adds the agreed-upon moisture allowance, which is usually twelve percent for spun linen yarn. This adjustment resolves the difference between the physical weight at delivery and the legal billing weight.
Contractual Verification
Executing a mass true up protects both the spinner and the buyer from moisture-induced price fluctuations. The calculated values are entered into the commercial invoice and signed by the quality manager. This formal document prevents disputes over moisture weight and ensures consistent billing across all raw material lots.
