Resource Allocation
Statistical modeling determines the optimal ratio of maintenance technicians to active weaving looms in a production facility. Linen mills apply finite-source queueing to calculate the expected waiting time for machine repairs when only a fixed number of looms can fail at any given time. This queuing model is documented in the annual operations planning file.
It does not apply when the mill hires external contractors to handle unlimited repair requests during a peak production run.
Mathematical Analysis
Loom failures must be resolved quickly to maintain the target efficiency rate of ninety percent. When the management runs a finite-source queueing calculation, they balance the cost of idle technicians against the lost revenue of stalled looms. This analysis helps determine whether to assign one technician to twenty looms or to twenty-five looms depending on the warp break rate of the flax yarn.
The daily shift logs record both the repair duration and the waiting time for each machine. Weaving managers use this data to adjust the staffing levels before starting a highly demanding fabric order.
Operational Limit
The mathematical model assumes a stable failure rate for all operating machinery. It fails when a batch of poor-quality yarn causes simultaneous breaks across the entire weaving room.
